-- DoS (Denial of Service)
The aim is to overcharge a component or a service of the system to make it collapse and therefore deny that service, for example the hard disk, processes, sessions, e-mail, http server. It can be put in action on the different levels of TCP/IP model:
- At the transport level: flooding of TCP SYN packets
- At IP level: sending IP fragments without finishing the datagram
- At application level: flooding of e-mail or http requests (es. MyDoom-A, attack to the Cisco e-mail server)
