ASSESSMENT
As
a way of
assessing students’ understanding of the main points of
the Unit, the teacher will test learners
with a set of written questions,
for example:
- List
some cultural features of the post-war decade in the United States.
- Name
at least three Beat authors (other than Kerouac and Ginsberg) and their
most important works.
- Analyze
briefly the key concepts of Kerouac’s narrative
style.
- Examine Ginsberg’s poem (A Supermarket in California)
and identify the differences between
Walt Whitman’s and Ginsberg’s american landscapes.
- List
the most important characters in Kerouac’s novel (at least three).
- Take
a look at the pictures of the authors (here in the Images section of
the Unit) and try to describe their appearances and their attitudes in
those shots. You are free to add your personal thoughts about their
philosophy of life and literature.
Students will be
allowed to choose two of the tasks above and to develop them in a
period
of 50
minutes more or less.
The written
production will be checked and marked by the teacher according to
standards of
exactness of contents, appropriateness and correctness of language
previously
declared to
the class.
