London, the capital of Britain, is a fascinating cosmopolitan city. It is the centre of government, with the Houses of Parliament. Buckingham Palace, the Queen's home, is also in London and there are hundreds of other places of grate historical interest, including Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, the British Museum, the London Eye and the museum of Madame Tussauds.
You can take taice a boat trip along the River Thames or a sight dseing tour on a double-decker bus, go shopping in Harrods, visit the world-famous museums or relax in one of the city's beautiful parks.
There are five Royal Parks in Central London.
Hide Park
Originally it was a hunting forest belonging to Henry VIII. Together with Kensington Gardens, it is the largest and the most crowded of London's parks. In spring and summer you can see many horse riders in Rotten Row; on fine days people take out rowing and sailing boats on the Serpentine lake or play games such as football and bols.
Regent's Park
It is the most aristocratic and the oldest of London's parks, with nice views of Buckingham Palace. In the park there is St James's Palace where Henry VIII and many of his successors live. In the middle of the park there's a lake with ducks, pelicans and other birds.Tourist and office-workers enjoy the fresh air and feed the ducks in their lunch-hour.
Green Park
It has always been different from the other Royal Parks.It has almost no flower gardens, but it's full of trees and has gentle slopes. It's a place for sitting out on a spring or summer afternoon and whatching people coming and going.
