In considering the personal and social identity of hard of hearing people, in the very fact that such an issue is framed for discussion, we clearly mean to contrast our situation to that of people who are physiologically deaf, or who consider themselves socially and culturally Deaf in spite of the existence of significant amounts of residual hearing. But even though it is undisputed that Deaf people exhibit more cohesion and sense of a common destiny than do those who are hard of hearing, we know that it would be extremely simplistic and inaccurate to characterize them as a monolithic entity. There are divisions among deaf people depending upon when the hearing loss was sustained, where their education took place, and their preferred communication system. Within the prelingually deaf category, there are subgroups based on religion, ethnicity, common interests, etc., just like in the larger society. Deaf people join these groups to assert their identity both as a Deaf person and as a member of some other category distinct from their hearing losses. But it is important to note that the common factor underlying these subgroup affiliations is their deafness. Indeed, it has been estimated that over half the prelingually deaf people, at least in the more developed countries, are affiliated with some type of local or national group organized on the basis of their common hearing condition. For the majority of Deaf people, then, there is clearly a personal and social identity as a Deaf person, one that is reflected in their affiliations and loyalties.

The purpose of this investigation was to examine personal and social conditions affecting women at selected stages of the adult life course that may influence hearing loss management. In all, 191 women in three age groups, ranging from 35 to 85 years old, participated. None reported hearing problems.

Un gruppo di giovani naziskin altoatesini e il turismo dell'OlocaustoLo chiamano gia' "turismo dell'Olocausto". E' quello messo in atto da un gruppo di giovani naziskin altoatesini che da Bolzano hanno raggiunto il vecchio campo di concentramento di Dachau e li' si sono fatti fotografare urlando il famigerato "Sigh Heil!" e levando il braccio nel saluto hitleriano davanti al cippo che ricorda il forno crematorio di Dachau. Oppure mettendosi in posa davanti alla scritta "Arbeit macht frei" sul cancello del campo, o mostrando le magliette con disegnate le machinen-pistol usate dai guardiani di allora per abbattere chi non obbediva agli ordini.

 Population ageing has produced a new socio­demographic category - "senior citizens" - whose interests and rights, the authors argue, are not adequately provided for in existing legal frameworks, which mostly pre­date the full­scale emergence of this population group. Taking a rights­based approach centring on the concepts of "social solidarity" and "social dignity", they propose to broaden the operational scope of this "framework human right". Their suggestions include a legally recognized status conferring a range of socio­economic rights to senior citizens; non­discrimination on grounds of age; greater flexibility in pension and retirement systems; and organized representation modelled on trade unionism and collective bargaining.

L'esclavage désigne les conditions sociales des esclaves, des travailleurs non libres et généralement non rémunérés qui sont juridiquement la propriété d'une autre personne et donc négociables, au même titre qu'un objet. Au sens large, l'esclavage est le système socio-économique reposant sur le maintien et l'exploitation de personnes dans cette condition. En France, il est considéré maintenant comme un crime contre l'humanité.

Les dispositions constitutionnelles de nombreux pays contiennent une référence expresse au principe de dignité de la personne humaine. Pour s'en rendre compte il suffit d'analyser quelques textes. Nous distinguerons les Constitutions des pays de l'Europe de l'Ouest (a), les Constitutions des pays de l'Europe de l'Est (b), et les Constitutions de quelques pays non européens (c).

a)Les Constitutions des pays de l'Europe de l'Ouest
En Allemagne, la Loi Fondamentale, adoptée le 23 mai 1949, place la dignité au premier rang des droits fondamentaux. Après avoir rappelé la responsabilité du peuple allemand dans le cadre de la seconde guerre mondiale, son article 1er dispose que «la dignité de l'être humain est intangible. Tout pouvoir public est tenu de la respecter et de la protéger». L'article 2 est également intitulé : «Dignité de la personne humaine».188(*)

APDI is an irresponsible, brutal and costly response to the issue of migration, and to now propose to do this behind military walls is contrary to the spirit of public review and accountability.

Primo Levi, né le 31 juillet 1919 à Turin et mort le 11 avril 1987 à Turin, est l'un des plus célèbres survivants de la Shoah.
Juif italien de naissance, chimiste de profession et vocation, il devint écrivain afin de témoigner, transmettre et expliquer son expérience concentrationnaire dans le camp d'Auschwitz, où il fut emprisonné à la Buna au cours de l'année 1944. Son livre le plus célèbre, Si c'est un homme (Se Questo è un Uomo, publié aux États-Unis sous le titre de Survival in Auschwitz) a été décrit comme « l'une des œuvres les plus importantes du vingtième siècle[1]. »

Aseret ha-Dibrot), both translatable as "the ten statements." The name "Decalogue" is derived from the Greek name δεκάλογος or "dekalogos" ("ten statements") found in the Septuagint (Exodus 34:28, Deuteronomy 10:4), which is the Greek translation of the Hebrew name.[2]

Slaves were transported to America from the West coast of Africa after being captured and sold to slavers, or men in the business of buying and selling slaves. The slaves were transported to American by the "middle passage." The middle passage was an especially cruel trip during which the slaves were crowded into ships and chained to the hold of the ship for months at a time. Many slaves died during the journey due to the unsanitary conditions aboard the ship, diseases such as scurvy, dysentary, starvation or malnutrition, suffocation, and general homesickness. Captains were afraid that slaves would uprise against the crew, so they often separated slaves from the same tribes and punished them for talking or singing on the ship.
